Mountains

The variety in Italy's landscapes reflects the beauty and natural diversity of this peninsula. The mountainous terrain is predominant thanks to two mountain chains: the Alps and the Apeninnes. Extending over 600 miles from east to west, the Alps consists of great massifs in the western sector with peaks rising to over 14,000 feet, including Monte Bianco (Mont Blanc); europe's highest mountain. The chain gets lower towards the east yet it's mountains; the Dolomites, are still of extraordinary beauty.
